Bill Gore RIP

Doug Boulton30 Oct 2023 - 14:11

A tribute to Bill Gore

Bill was a Yorkshireman born in Hull and educated at Hymers College, steeped in rugby [both codes] and his rugby knowledge be it National, Regional or local was second to none.
He joined CRFC in the mid 70’s in the latter stages of his rugby career. Representing teams throughout the Club from the No 10 position [fly half in those days] he played in perhaps the only Colchester game to ever be reported in The Sunday Times [see below]
On finishing his playing days, he turned to coaching – producing some excellent Colts sides of the mid to late 80’s with Messrs. Cryne, Lant and Bates his star pupils joined by his stepson Paul Arden.
In recent years he has been a regular attender and admirer of CRFC 1st XV.
Bill’s talents were not confined to rugby. Alongside an illustrious business career, he was a member of a choir, a patron of St Nicholas Chapel in Coggeshall and Chairman of Council [the Governing body] at The University of Essex[see below]
