On a warm day in Colchester, Iceni put in a dominant performance, claiming a commanding 55-0 win with clinical finishing and strong defense.
The game started with intensity, and after 13 minutes, Anna Fox found space on the wing to score the opening try. The conversion was missed, keeping it at 5-0. Yas Amber then powered through for the second try, converting her own effort to extend the lead to 12-0.
Lucy Philpott’s defensive work and strong carries set up Sian Plume for a well deserved try in her final game, with the conversion making it 19-0. Four minutes later, Beth Watts broke through the defense and linked up with her teammates before finishing her try. The conversion was missed, keeping it at 24-0.
A head injury forced Anna Fox off, with Gracie Bessant coming on as her replacement. Yas made a powerful break, staying on her feet after a tackle to keep the play alive. Beth Watts finished the move, scoring her second try. With the conversion added, Iceni pushed further ahead at 31-0.
Kat Richardson then crossed the line after some slick passing, though the conversion was missed. Just before halftime, Yas made a 50-meter break but knocked on at the try line.
The second half started with fresh legs as Zoe, Laura, Caroline, and Kay came on. A penalty move found Zoe on the wing, who ran it back under the posts for a well-taken try. Maddie converted, bringing the score to 43-0.
Fast hands sent the ball out wide to Gracie Bessant, who powered through to score. The conversion was missed, making it 48-0.
Play was paused due to an injury on the opposition side, Iceni send over their well wishes, before resuming with a scrum. Maddison Seal spotted a gap in the defense and cut inside to score under the posts. Katie converted, and the final whistle blew. Making the final score 55-0.
A strong all-around performance from Iceni, controlling the game from start to finish. Player of the Match went to Sian Plume for marking her final game with a try and overall great play on the pitch. Under the radar went to Beth Philpott for her growth and development throughout the season. The lumberjack award for great tackling went to Kat Richardson.
Special mention to our good luck charm of the day as previous player, Chloe Inglis brought down her beautiful baby son to cheer the girls on.
