What was particularly encouraging was the good performance of Ravens regulars like Adam Cook, Toby Hill and Dan Hexley who fitted in seamlessly with the 1st team regulars.
Colchester scored three tries in the first half through Dave Brennan, Dan Brennan and Dan Hexley whilst Bury's centres combined to gain them a converted try making the score 7-17 at the interval.
Flanker Ollie Pickett scored twice in the second half and prop Jerome Awesu got one whilst Bury's backs claimed two.
The final score was 19 to the hosts and 38 to the visitors in what was a useful warm-up game for Colchester ready for the league contest which starts against Diss at Mill Road on 1st September.
