Colchester visited Westcombe Park in Kent to play their second pre-season game against a side that was demoted from National 3 to London 1 South last season.
Westcombe scored six tries converting only one mainly through the speed of their backs whereas Colchester replied with four tries with James Crozier converting three. Recent arrivals from Norway and New Zealand Freddie Skovly and Richie Kaisia acquitted themselves well at No. 6 and 12 respectively and skipper Dan Whiteman had a busy game scoring one of the tries and replacing injured hooker Charlie Thorogood in the second half.
Other new additions to the team were centres Jamie Light and Sean Bundy plus prop Lewis Jefferson who came off the bench after the interval.
With the Ravens competing well in the second team game against Westcombe losing a closely fought game, this was a good work out for the whole squad and excellent preparation for the league season which starts next Saturday 7th September at 3 pm at home at Mill Road when the Blacks take on visitors Shelford to which supporters are most welcome.
